Color

The color in the image is less vibrant than the one that are expressed in the graphic book. I choice to do a more subtle approach and convey the mood of calm. Since Fall is approaching I though to do a picture that will make you feel calm and elated. Focusing on the grass and its luscious green coloring you almost see the light brown wheat begin to fade into the image. But if you unfocused your eyes from the green palette that overpower the image you begin to notice the dying of the wheats color. The lighting changes this image as a whole as it is the most important factor of the picture s it helps to captivate the colors that get lost in the greens.

Transparency

This is a picture I took one night with my boyfriend. Our shadows hold a physical transparency and weren’t very opaque because the light source was further away. You can see the shape of our bodies, but also the texture of the wall through our silhouettes.

Ceramic Plack, FINEARTS340

Ceramic Plaque, FINEARTS340

I chose to use something that I had made in one of my fine arts classes. This was a plaque we had made in class as a sort of ‘mini project’ to learn how to use different glazes, ect. So as I was reading the chapter on color I realized how I unintentionally used the primary colors within the pineapple ( red, yellow, blue). The area I used it in is basically the focal point of the art and I was able to use a sort of color contrast in the back with the purple and green and the whole thing together is able to appeal to ones eye and create a balance in the composition.

Roses Are Red. Color

from-lightroom

A picture taken in one of the Pullman neighborhoods

I chose this picture that I took because I believe that it illustrates color relationships very well. For example all of the flowers have an analogous color scheme that also go well with the rav four with the canoe in the middle ground. The green in the foreground and the background  help to separate the two red things while also providing a pleasing pattern of complementary colors. The Flowers are red with white to help the red on the flowers appear less intense and mix with the pink better as well as providing contrast which helps the flowers stand out.

Color and Transparency

img_0301

Make sure to explain where the image was captured, etc. in a caption.

This picture of me was taken on the media day of women’s basketball team in WSU and the photographer decided to project the flag of our countries on us. The result was obvious. I was like a separate layer from the flag and i was behind it. The questions is why am i still visible? Because the layer of the flag is transparent, it’s opacity is below 100 so it’s possible to observe what’s under. This picture makes me think of photoshop and how we can use opacity/transparency, which is a powerful tool to provoke some nice effects.
This picture has also a lot to do with color. As the chapter say, we can’t see color without light, and light is going to change the way we perceive that color. Th equipment I’m using is white, but depending on what part of the flag is pointing at me, it might look either white, green or red. And we can also see that the floor, which is light brown with the lights on, it looks either grey or even black for the simple reason that there is not light on it, so we are not able to distinguish it color.

This image I took of my brother is a great example of color. Color is a major aspect within design and makes an image come alive. This photo was taken on Cottage Lake, just before sunset. The blues and shadows make a mysterious and dark atmosphere, while the bright white clouds bring the photo to life. The shine and reflection from the water creates a strong vibrant color. The blacks of the trees and of my brothers shadow makes the color in the background stand out.

Transparency and Color

20160921_123614

Photo taken by me in the coffee lounge inside of the CUB

This booth provides a good example of transparency, as the low opacity of the circles allows them to sort of blend in with the background color. [This is also an interesting example of how color can create the illusion of transparency: The thread in the textile isn’t really transparent, but the tints (hue + white) of red and green are similar in value (relative lightness or darkness), which helps give the illusion.] The different shades of color in this booth allow it to form an interesting pattern. Without color the pattern wouldn’t seem the same. I have heard of opacity before, and used it as a term for things on the web, but for some reason never thought of it in terms of every day objects. Its nice to be able to appreciate the careful design that goes into the things around me.

img_9481I chose to us this chair because the color pops and generates different climates of color. The pattern also works to brighten the room. It makes the chair and surrounding furniture stand out. It also is the lone red chair and has a pattern which makes it differentiate from the other typographic patterns.

Color

I took a picture of this artwork that one of my art professors created called Yellow. It is currently hanging in a stairwell in the CUB and I think it is a perfect example of color. For instance, there is a lot of movement going on and I believe that there is so much movement because of the complements throughout the canvas. There are also so many tertiary colors placed within each abstract circle painted. The overwhelming yellow gives makes me feel happy and optimistic, even with the abstractness and chaos that is surrounding the dominant yellow. Overall, I think this painting is very abstract and uses all aspects of color very well to create an interesting composition.

Rhythm and Balance

silicon-valley

Poster for the HBO television program Silicon Valley, created by Mike Judge

I took this photo of this poster in my apartment because I really believe it represents rhythm and balance quite well. Like Lupon’s book says, symmetry is a way to achieve balance within a given subject. In this image of the poster for the HBO show Silicon Valley, there are actually two instances of symmetry. Firstly, notice the contrasting shades on the top and bottom of the page. There is virtually a 50/50 split up of the white and dark shading; creating an eye-pleasing balance that doesn’t exclude any content from within the frames. The second instance of symmetry is the balance of the characters that are all posing the same way. Although the individuals aren’t identical, the specific pose, outfitting, and lighting/shading conveys the notion of…stability in a sense.
