Taken From the SAO Sakura Con Exclusive Poster

I chose this poster of the upcoming Sword Art Online film because I think it makes a great use of the Gestalt Principles. The simplicity in the way this poster is framed is nice although the Main image is bordered at the top giving a nice simple three rectangle shape with the full bleed on the sides of the image implying that this imaginary world continues past our eyes. Within the main image itself in the background we see one single continuous shape made of three more simple and similar circles. Within each of those circles as well the proximity of the shapes inside of the circles which are fragmented and broken make our brains complete the circle. Even though the main characters come in front of the circles, which make them stand out and contrast beautifully to their background, our brain makes the circles continue behind them our brains want to close that shape. Another great thing is the continuity that happens between the two characters themselves, they turn into one negative shape with the way they overlap. The white of their shirts continues in our minds and create a beautiful sideways S shape.The way these characters become one shape is great symbolism because the two characters are a couple in the show. Outside of the main picture in the negative space is where all the information is located and like the book had stated in there is some white space that is just left to be which makes this piece look more elegant.
