I have picked this poster as the one I want to edit and finalize for multiple reasons. I feel that it is the most organized and well put together, it utilizes multiple aspects of design we have gone over in our readings as well as I personally believe it is the strongest poster design of the three. In my poser I put ‘action’ and ‘6:30pm’ in the biggest bold letters to try and draw attention to those for passers by. If I personally saw a poster that said ‘poetry’ in big letters I wouldn’t bother reading it, but the word action would draw my attention. I placed the location and date underneath that so a viewer could quickly see when the event would be. Underneath that I aligned the different poets names and descriptions in different ways to give each one its own personality and distinction. Joan Retallack’s is left like standard english literate because it is on the left side of the page, K. Silem Mohammad’s is right aligned because it is on the right of the page. Collier Noques’ description is center aligned with a pyramid shaped description, flowing from the negative space in between the first two texts down to the the lowest text and the large ‘6:30pm’. To edit this poster I will utilize the allowed use of another letterform to enhance the piece as well as making it slightly more complex to draw one’s eye to it. As well as this I will use the new letterform in a slightly transparent way, most likely in the background to give the piece a more visually compelling shape with the text. Weber critiqued this poster and he works as a graphic designer, I’m taking some of his advice as well as some of my new ideas and making this poster as powerful as I can with new edits.
About rakotadice
My name is Dakota Rice, I am from Bainbridge Island Washington and am currently attending Washington State University where I plan to graduate in May 2017 and later on attend law school. I am very passionate about music and have been playing guitar and the drums since I was in middle school. More specifically I am very passionate about rock and heavy metal music. I have a very diverse set of sub genres within those genres that I enjoy and play along with on the drums and guitar. I'm a very active person and enjoy weight lifting and playing intramural soccer and football on my fraternity's teams for the university. I also am an avid all mountain skier, that which I having doing since I was four years old.
I grew up on Bainbridge Island with my parents, younger sister and a variety of cats, dogs and fish over the years. I attended Bainbridge High School and graduated in 2013. I spent my summers hanging out with my friends and working for MRJ Constructors and Meadowmeer Golf Course, and in the winter I went skiing as much as every weekend, going up to Whistler for a few days or just going to Crystal mountain for the day. During my highschool career I played football and lacrosse, lettering my sophomore, junior and senior years in both. I planned on playing for the Washington State lacrosse team here in Pullman but I can’t afford the extra two grand it costs to play. My junior year of highschool I decided to join a rec soccer team picking it back up again after quitting to play football in eighth grade. I played on that rec team my junior and senior years and that is what motivated me to join my fraternity’s intramural soccer team.
Last year I pledged and was initiated into the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, also known as Fiji. I summer signed the chapter and was able to move directly into the house my freshmen year. Joining this fraternity was without a doubt one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I have made some really good friends through this house.
I am very big music fan, specifically different genres of heavy metal ranging from hair metal to extreme metals. I play both guitar and the drums, more so the drums which I am very passionate about. Playing along to a good metal song has to be one of my favorite pastimes. Last year being away from my drum kit for months on end while at school was almost unbearable and so this year I bought an electric drumset to keep myself occupied. I played in a few bands during high school including LRGB and Cloud Nine, both of which being rock groups. Playing in those bands was a very fun experience but tastes in music eventually were the downfall of both. My dream job is playing drums in band and touring around the world though, even if it meant I only made enough to get by, drumming around the world and skiing foreign mountains while on tour is my dream.
